Fashion Revolution: Y Chroma Targets Neglected Middle-Aged Demographic

New York Fashion Week: The Shows commenced on Friday, featuring presentations from four menswear designers unveiling their latest collections. Y Chroma, a brand that emerged less than twelve months ago, is determined to target the frequently overlooked demographic of middle-aged individuals. Founder Max Israel expressed that the motivation behind the brand stems from the realization of customers who, while waiting in line at Starbucks, recognize they share an identical wardrobe with other men and desire a change. Israel stated, “It’s not a simple transition to achieve.”

According to Israel, the brand draws inspiration from Generation X’s heritage, blending the laid-back essence of skate and surf culture with opulent textiles and sophisticated aesthetics. Israel emphasized the significance of this approach, stating, “This is crucial because we are addressing a demographic of 100 million men across the US and Europe. They constitute a substantial portion of the GDP and are largely excluded from the realm of fashion. We are committed to altering that reality.”

Designer Terry Singh, aged 57, returned with a collection designed to impart a distinctive identity to every man he dresses. He articulated, “When you observe him strolling down the street, he exudes that distinct appearance.” Singh maintained his tradition of utilizing unconventional models. Brian St. John, a record label vice president, became one such model when Singh discovered him having his photograph taken on a New York street.

St. John recalled, “Terry was guiding my friend on how to capture better pictures and improve angles. We exchanged Instagram accounts, and he subsequently reached out, inviting me to participate in the show.”

Landeros, a fashion brand, also presented during the morning session of the semiannual Men’s Day event. Additionally, Jack Sivan’s brand made its debut at the fashion week, concentrating on gentle and playful tailoring.

New York Fashion Week: The Shows will feature presentations from nearly 50 brands, including Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, and Brandon Maxwell, continuing until Wednesday.
